Nintendo will not be announcing a new Switch model anytime soon
In a Q&A call with investors, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa stated that Nintendo has no plans on announcing a new Switch model in the near future. Furukawa’s statement invalidates the on-going rumor that Nintendo is planning to launch the “Switch Pro”, or “Super Switch”, in 2021. The news comes from a Bloomberg report, who covered Nintendo’s quarterly earnings meeting.
While the president of Nintendo probably just wanted to end the never-ending rumours concerning a potential new Switch model, it seems like his statement only caused more speculation. Several fans claim that Furukawa speaking up only confirms the fact that Nintendo is working on a more powerful version of the Nintendo Switch. Industry analyst David Gibson reasons that the statement means that Nintendo has no plans beyond the already announced Super Mario World and Monster Hunter: Rise Switch consoles.
It is safe to say that Nintendo is in no rush to release their new Switch model, considering their current platform just surpassed the Nintendo 3DS in sales. It is even conceivable there might never be a new Switch model. After all, Nintendo already released three different versions of the console: the original, the revised original with extended battery life, and the Switch Lite.
