HBO’s The Last of Us finds its director
The HBO adaptation of hit video game The Last of Us has found a director for their pilot: Kantemir Balagov. Balagov is a Russian filmmaker and most known for his dramas Beanpole and Closeness, which were both hits on the Cannes film festival.
The series is developed by executive producer Neil Druckmann, co-president of The Last of Us developing studio Naughty Dog, and Craig Mazin, creator of HBO’s acclaimed Chernobyl. The series is a co-production with the newly instated PlayStation Productions, which focuses on movies and series based on PlayStation game franchises.
The Last of Us is a narrative driven action adventure set in a post-apocalyptic world which was released in 2013. It centres around Joel, a hardened survivor who is hired to smuggle a 14-year-old girl called Ellie out of a quarantine zone. Its sequel, The Last of Us Part II, was released last year.
